Tottenham Hotspur will be without services of midfielder Tom Huddlestone until the end of this Barclays Premier League campaign. 25-year old footballer was originally injured in August and appeared in only two games this season, but a second surgery was deemed necessary by the team’s medical staff.
“Tom will undergo a second stage of surgery on Friday to further his recovery following ankle surgery at the end of last year.”, the statement on official Tottenham website says, “The midfielder has progressed well since his initial surgery, with the specialist determining that the anticipated reconstruction of a lateral ankle ligament is the next step towards the England international making a return to full fitness.”
This could prove to be a hard blow for the team currently sitting at the third place in the standings. Huddlestone played in 124 matches since joining Hotspur in 2005 and had trouble with injuries in previous seasons. With him out again, the team will have to count on other options to shore up the middle of the court.
On his Twitter account, Huddlestone expressed hope he will be able to contribute soon: “Thanks for the messages. My season is over before it even started, operation Friday. Main objective is to make sure I’m 100% for pre-season.”
