Arsene Wenger Olympiakos vs Arsenal Preview ‎

Arsenal is now focusing on European adversaries on Wednesday when they encounter UEFA Champions League’s Olympiakos.

The Gunners suffered a discouraging beginning in this 2011-12 season, as they have performed less than expected.

But the team was in a position to grab 3 Premier League points was they faced Bolton on Saturday. A side effect has been that they feel pretty confident now.

Arsene Wenger is going to be seeking similar results this week, with his team taking one point against Borussia Dortmund in Group F.

In recent years, Arsenal have performed very well when playing on home territory. They feel very positive that they will get their 1st victory on the continent this season.

Olympiakos, in the mean time, are expected to get to their next game with the stark awareness that their track record in the UK isn’t that great.

The Greek team has been down all 9 of their away-from-home games when confronting English teams. Indeed nothing to write home about.

They were defeated 2 nil in the Emirates throughout the 2009 to 2010 group games.

Selection Challenges

Wenger is facing quite a bit of a challenge regarding his selection: his a few men short.

Arsenal is going to be lacking the presence of winger Theo Walcott, who suffered knee injuries. There’s also forward Gervinho with an injured hamstring, and centre-back Koscielny who hurt his ankle. Two other key players – centre-back Djourou and Midfielder Benayoun – will also not be able to play due to injuries. Finally, Wilshere adn Vermaelen are still nursing their injuries.

Better Form

In comparison, a number of key Olympiakos are coming back after healing their injuries: Ariel Ibagaza (foot), Ljubomir Fejsa (groin), Fuster (thigh) and Giannis Potouridis (groin) are coming back in full form.
