nathan redmond Championship News: Birmingham 1 0 Portsmouth, talks about Nathan Redmond

Nathan Redmond of Birmingham FC, 17-year-old left the bench, came on to the game and volleyed a superb winning goal with less than four minutes left on the clock. The ball was crossed in to the penalty box where Redmond sent the ball flying to the bottom left hand corner.

This could well be a well earned promotion push for the young star after scoring the late winner at St Andrew’s.

Chris Hughton, Birmingham manager  said ”Nathan Redmond is a wonderful player.

“He’s a real talent, we genuinely don’t like to get too carried away about players because we’ve seen it before when you get a player who doesn’t get to the levels you think he is going to.

“At the moment I think we’ve managed him quite well.”

Portsmouth boss Michael Appleton has stated that: ”I’m hoping for news [about investment] over the next couple of days because the longer it goes on, obviously, the more difficult it’s going to be to keep morale up and keep the players in a positive frame of mind.

“They’re a decent bunch of lads, who’ve had to take a lot of hits over the last couple of months or so with everything that’s going on, especially in the last week not being paid.

“I can’t really any ask for any more effort.

“I tried to remind them before the game this evening of why we all started playing football in the first place, it’s because we love the game and we enjoy it.”

Pompey seems to be more worried about the clubs financial situation, he said:

“The lads have had to take a lot of hits over the last couple of months, especially not being paid over the last week.

“The longer it goes on, the more difficult it’ll be to keep the players in a positive frame of mind. I tried to remind them before the game why we all started playing football in the first place: it’s because we love and enjoy it.

“If they don’t forget that, we’ll come out the other end as a better club. We’re playing a waiting game and hoping someone decides to spend a few quid on a football club on the South Coast.

“None of us are administration experts. But I would imagine there were plenty of people having a look at our players. If we lose players, the Football League won’t let us go into games with just 12 or 13.”
